Stiles’ 3rd perfect game of season blanks Lady Trojans

UV falls in high-scoring affair with Sidney

DEPOSIT – The Lady Jacks’ Mackenzie Stiles added another perfect game to her New York State record, making it number 15 of her career as Deposit took down Greene in a 6-0 win Tuesday afternoon.

Until the fifth inning, there were just two base runners in the contest by both teams. Deposit’s Danielle Seymour hit a full-count single to right field on the ground in the bottom of the first and Stiles drew a walk in the fourth.

However, Greene was able to get out of the inning, leaving both base runners on base for the Lady Jacks.

The game was a defensive battle as the score remained 0-0 into the bottom of the fifth. That was when Deposit was able to get a small rally going.

The trip to the plate for the Lady Jacks started with a Zoe Gifford walk. Olivia Kennedy was in the circle for the Trojans and she battled back against Gifford in the at-bat after going down 3-0. The Greene’s ace came back with back-to-back strikes, forcing the 3-2 count and making Gifford protect the plate. The Deposit batter fouled the next pitch off her bat to make Kennedy extend the pitch count.

Gifford walked to first on the ball four call, giving the Jacks their third base runner of the game. Her colleague Kayla Eldred hit a hard grounder to left on the first pitch of the at-bat, sending Gifford into scoring position at second.
